RTL 4 heeft het afgelopen seizoen wat dingetjes geprobeerd op het gebied van musical, waarbij Sunday Night Fever het verst in het geheugen ligt. Zenderbaas Erland Galjaard heeft altijd gezegd dat een vervolg op die musicalzoektocht afhangt van welke productie Joop van den Ende in de aanbieding had. Inmiddels zegt hij: “Musicals? Dat mapje gaat dicht. Laat ik het zo zeggen: Op Zoek Naar… moeten wij niet doen.”
Daarmee komt er weer een mogelijkheid voor de Avro om met die titel aan de haal te gaan.
Frits Sissing baalde in elk geval stevig, toen er na Op Zoek Naar Zorro geen vervolg kwam bij zijn Avro. Het was RTL die met een eigen aanpak Sunday Night Fever in de markt zette. Heel succesvol pakte dat overigens niet uit, zowel het programma niet als de uiteindelijke musical zelf.
Galjaard vertelt tegen deze blog: “Ik vond het toen een goed idee. We wilden op de zondagavond een stap maken en mochten mede bepalen welke musical het zou worden. Saturday Night Fever vind ik een musical waar onder doelgroep iets mee zou moeten hebben. Dat klopte wel, Chantal klopte ook en de uitzendavond leek ook te kloppen. Vroeger scoorde de Avro daar met Op Zoek Naar…. Maar de kijker beslist uiteindelijk dat ze het moeilijk vinden. Dan moet je daar naar luisteren, dat willen ze niet bij RTL.”
Dan is er nog de Musical Awards, waar Nederland 1 geen plek voor had in de schema’s. RTL 4 bracht de prijsuitreiking onder in Life4You, waar heel wat kritiek op kwam. “Ik zat toen in Frankrijk. Later heb ik het nog eens teruggekeken, ik vond het allemaal erg meevallen. Maar op dit moment heeft het geen prioriteit voor ons om dit nog eens te doen.”
Overigens is het nog onduidelijk of en wanneer de Musical Awards weer uitgereikt worden. De theaterproducenten kunnen het niet eens worden over hoe de verkiezing georganiseerd moet worden.

was ook een grote aanfkluiting bij RTL. Zo helpen ze wel een programma om zeepoverigens. Nu weer weggooien en kan de avro weer opbouwen wat ze eerder al hadden..
Ja laat de Avro het weer doen!!
Het was niet moeilijk Erland, het was niet om aan te zien! Alleen Chantal was leuk.
TrThis is good-and bad news for musical enthusiasts. The good news is that RTL4 has apparently given this genre up.This is fine – and understandable-because the audiences for this tv service and that of musicals are so vastly different that it was always a situation that was bound to end in tears.
True,there was a time-in the 90′s-when programmes about musicals were indeed popular on this channel (Remember all the “making of’s?”)But in those days Joop still ruled with nine out of ten shows being produced by his company. Alas, when he quit RTL 4 took a terrible nosedive in taste and style and today it’s target audience is trailer trash. (And I thought the British ITV was bad)
Incidentally it is interesting to note that in Britain a simliar fate has happened to the latest “Search”. There -as here- the series was a hit on the public service BBC but has flopped horribly on ITV.
But here comes the bad news. The fact that the AVRO are still in the market for another “Search”! God in heaven what do musical fans have to do to make it clear that this was/is the most misconcieved idea in the history of ideas. So many reasons; wrong audience (still)too many talent shows; musical stars need experience and cannot just be “discovered” ;a giant advertising plug (free)the star chosen always turns out in fact to be a professional and so on. Still-what the hey! just think of all that lovely revenue from the phone votes!
And it gets worse; because just as the VARA cannot seem to cut the umblical cord between itsself and the grotesque and ghastly Paul de Leuuwe (who watches this guy nowadays?) so the AVRO cannot seem to grasp the simple fact that Frits Sissing is a fool with a fools face who has no musical talent or even historic connection with musicals and is totally untelegenic. He must be paid off and given an office job where he cannot embaress the nation.
